A good friend of mine tried planting her seeds early in milk cartons last year, so this year, I decided to try it.
Throughout the month of December and January, I collected my milk cartons. I think that was the worst part of the project. Then in late February, I cut open the milk cartons 3/4 of the way around, drilled small drain holes through the plastic, put dirt in the bottom, planted my seeds, and sealed it back up with duct tape. I used a sharpie marker and wrote the plant name on each carton. I watched and watered. I was surprised with the results. Out of 21 cartons, only three didn't sprout. Yay! No huge $ to the greenhouses this year. I've got a good start on my flowers and vegetables.
