Easter this year was beautiful. I still am in love with Spring in my yard...so many colors.
We started Easter off with our traditional treasure hunt:
And since kites were one of the surprises, and the conditions were perfect, we had to go fly them.
We spent hours in the parking lot down the street. Sadly, Bl let go of his kite for just a second. The wind caught it and sent it sailing over a nearby business. I saw that it was caught and still flying above a bank on Main Street. The big crocodile tears in Bl's eyes pulled at my heart and I decided that I had to do something about it. I jumped the fence and ran over to the bank. Sadly, the handle of the kite was caught high in a tree. The tree was small enough that I shook the trunk in hopes of wiggling it free. It slipped off the high branch and quickly wound 5-6 times around another branch that was just as high. For a second, I thought I would have to tell Bl that his kite was gone.
Then I realized that I could still do something about it...I had tools at home.
I ran the 3 blocks home (why was that harder than the 7 miles I had run the day before?), grabbed a pitch fork and a step ladder, and drove back to the bank.
I worried for a second about surveillance cameras and witnesses on the road. Someone could call the cops. I did look rather peculiar with my "tools" outside the bank. Luckily, I wasn't attacking the building, just a small tree, so no one reported me.
I stepped up, barely snagged the kite string with the pitch fork, and rescued the first part of the kite string. I started winding up, followed it through another group of trees, up and over the eaves of the roof, and finally pulled the kite to safety.
The things a mom will do for her little boy. He was happy.
Sadly, while I was on the kite rescue mission, K offered to let Bl use her kite. In the transition, her kite flew on top of the big building next to the parking lot. There were no strings, no kite tails, and no handles to rescue that kite. Our kite flying quickly came to an end for the night.
We really enjoyed listening and watching General Conference. Beautiful talks, beautiful messages, wonderful spirit. I love our inspired leaders.
Happy Easter.
I love the bank story. It cracks me up. I'll come get you out of jail if you are ever put in there for looking like you are doing something wrong. Just give me a call!
